Aston Villa star Leon Bailey comes out fighting with message ahead of new season

Aston Villa star Leon Bailey has sent a defiant message to his doubters ahead of his second season at Villa Park.

Bailey arrived at the club from German side Bayer Leverkusen last summer in a deal worth a reported £30 million.

The exciting winger came in for criticism during his injury-hit season but came out fighting on his Instagram story on Saturday afternoon (2 July).

Bailey posted the message “Talk the same talk you did last season.

“New season incoming, I’m coming for everything they said I couldn’t achieve, mark my words.”

The message was posted alongside a video recap of his best moments in a Villa shirt that was made by an Iranian Villa fan.

He can talk the talk

Bailey posting a message like this is encouraging for Villa fans given his struggles last season.

The mercurial winger struggled with injury from the moment he arrived at Villa Park, missing two games after his debut against Watford due to an injury.

He made his mark on the Premier League in his home debut against Everton, coming off the bench to force an own goal and score another in a 3-0 win.

However, his cameo lasted just 20 minutes as the winger pulled up with yet another muscle injury.

In total, Bailey missed 21 games in all competitions due to injury and was limited to just seven starts.

This was not the first time he has had muscle issues, given that he missed eight matches during the 2019/20 season due to a muscle tear.

However, Bailey has never had issues recur this often in the past so it could very easily just be a one-off.

It is more than worth persisting with Bailey however as he has bags of talent and has shown that he can handle the Premier League when he is fit.

In other Aston Villa news, the club are still none the wiser if Ashley Young is staying or going despite his contract expiring.
