Aston Villa star Kortney Hause facing injury lay-off following knee surgery

Aston Villa defender Kortney Hause has told fans that he faces a spell on the sidelines following knee surgery.

Hause has largely been a backup since arriving at Villa in 2019, making just 11 starts across the last two seasons.

He posted an update to his Instagram story to say he had the surgery, but reassured fans that he “will be back shortly”.

The Express & Star claimed that the surgery was only minor, and he should be out for four to six weeks, ruling him out of preseason.

Villa get their preseason schedule started next Saturday (9 July) with their annual friendly away to Walsall.

Who will come in?

The news is surprisingly timely as it coincides with the news that young defender Lamare Bogarde has extended his contract with Villa.

Bogarde was already due minutes in preseason regardless, but Hause’s injury layoff will bump him back up the pecking order.

Fellow youngster Josh Feeney could also benefit after coming into the first team squad towards the end of last season.

Villa also have new signing Diego Carlos to come in after signing from Sevilla last month, allowing Villa to cope with Hause’s absence just fine.

One man who will be sat out alongside Hause is Ezri Konsa, who picked up a knee injury in Villa’s draw with Crystal Palace back in May.

Steven Gerrard confirmed at the time that he would be out for up to 16 weeks, putting him out until August at the earliest.

Villa will also be able to count on Tyrone Mings and Calum Chambers during preseason, with both set to feature heavily.

While Hause’s injury is a blow, it could work in Villa’s favour as they look to assess their youngsters and new arrivals.

In other Aston Villa news, youngster Tim Iroegbunam is wanted by at least six Championship clubs on loan.
