Aston Villa reach agreement with Trabzonspor for Trezeguet sale – Fabrizio Romano

Aston Villa have come to an agreement with Turkish Super League side Trabzonspor over the sale of Egyptian winger Trezeguet, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 27-year-old has fallen out of favour at Villa Park and made just one appearance in the Premier League during the 2021-22 campaign before being loaned out to Basaksehir on 8 February for the rest of the season.

Romano, a journalist for Sky Italy, has now reported that the two clubs have found common ground over his future and that it is only paperwork and personal terms that need to be agreed for a sale to go through.

The Express and Star’s Matt Maher has also shared the news of Trezeguet’s impending exit from Aston Villa and believes that the fee the clubs have agreed upon is in the region of £4.25million.

He did enjoy a good end to his 2021-22 season in Turkey with six goals and four assists in the Super League but that has not been enough to convince Steven Gerrard that he can play a part in the Premier League.

Great business

We had a player who we no longer needed and hardly ever used last season and we’ve managed to get over £4million for him with only 12 months left on his contract.

It doesn’t matter who you are, whether it be Aston Villa or Accrington Stanley, that kind of cash for a player that would have been heading for a free exit is fantastic business from the club.

Trabzonspor could have probably bought him for far less given how little Gerrard will have been planning on using him and the eagerness to reduce the current wage budget to bring in further reinforcements.

There are still other players that we really don’t need anymore such as Bertrand Traore and Morgan Sanson so if we can get similarly significant transfer fees for those too we would have enjoyed a superb window.

We still need a couple more additions to make this squad one that could conceivably challenge for the top eight or nine positions in the league but the signs are all good so far.

In other Aston Villa news, we think that Gerrard might want to reconsider his stance on one of his former players who always turns up on the big occasions.
