Aston Villa star Morgan Sanson could be set for cut-price move to Galatasaray – report

Aston Villa flop Morgan Sanson is seemingly on his way out of Villa Park and has now emerged as a target for Turkish giants Galatasaray, according to the Daily Mirror.

Sanson has had a torrid time with injuries since arriving at Villa in January 2021 and has made just 10 appearances this season, starting just three times.

The newspaper has reported in their print edition [28 June, pg. 46] that Villa are now looking to move him on for a bargain fee to clear up space in the midfield.

Big things were expected of the French midfielder after he arrived at Villa from Marseille, but it sadly has not worked out for him in Birmingham.

With Villa now looking for a new midfielder and being linked with Conor Gallagher in the Birmingham Mail, there is now no space for Sanson.

A shame

Sanson has been hard done by at Villa, both by injuries and by Steven Gerrard.

He has impressed when he has been able to play, but even when fit he has not been Gerrard’s first choice. Despite John McGinn struggling towards the end of the season, Sanson remained stapled to the bench and did not appear in Villa’s last eight games.

It took him until December to make a league appearance, with Gerrard giving him a 13-minute cameo in Villa’s defeat to Manchester City. He made just two league starts, against Manchester United and Wolves, and never completed 90 minutes.

However, his biggest issue at Villa has been his own body with Sanson being perpetually injured.

The midfielder struggled for fitness after arriving in 2021, but after starting three out of four matches between March and April 2021, he picked up an injury that ended his 2020/21 season.

For an idea of how his time at Villa has gone, just look at his appearance against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup. Dean Smith rotated the team and gave Sanson a chance to rebuild his fitness and match sharpness.

In what almost seemed like a cruel joke, he had to be substituted before halftime after picking up yet another injury. When he has been afforded the chance to play, Sanson has been impressive.

However, with minutes being so limited, a move would probably be best for both parties.

In other Aston Villa news, women’s star Ramona Petzelberger is in talks about a move to Tottenham.
