Conor Hourihane left in limbo by Wayne Rooney exit after Aston Villa release
Conor Hourihane could be left without a club after his release from Aston Villa after a significant development at Derby County, according to The Sun.
The Republic of Ireland international was earmarked by Wayne Rooney as the midfielder to lead the Rams’ assault on League One for the 2022-23 campaign.
The 31-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Sheffield United, had been offered a three-year deal at Pride Park when Chris Kirchner was set to buy the club but his proposed deal has since collapsed.

As a result of the uncertainty, Rooney left his post as Derby County manager and the contract offer has subsequently been whipped off the table for Hourihane.
A move to the East Midlands is not completely out of the question for the Irishman but it would require the next manager, whoever it may be, to re-engage in talks when they are able to do so.
Shame
Hourihane was never the greatest player in our side nor was he going to be but he has never done anything massively wrong or given anything less than 100% whenever he played for us.
We’re not all that disappointed that he’s been released because it was ultimately the right time for him to move on but we were hoping he would find himself a new club relatively quickly.

The rest of League One are probably rather glad that his move to Derby is now on the rocks because he would tear the third tier to pieces with that wand of a left foot.
There should really be a queue of Championship sides at his front door right now begging him to come and play for them because he has proven time and time again that he can control any second-tier game with ease and that is surely an asset that every team wants to have in their armoury.
