Aston Villa youth star Aaron Ramsey looking to emulate ‘role model’ brother Jacob

Aston Villa starlet Aaron Ramsey has praised the impact his brother Jacob Ramsey has had on his career so far as he seeks to follow in his footsteps.

The 19-year-old maestro is currently away with England at the Under-19 European Championships after completing a loan spell at Cheltenham Town.

He outlined how both brothers help and learn from each other while also detailing his hopes of breaking into the Villa team with his brother.

The comments were published in a column Ramsey wrote for the England website on Wednesday night (22 June), the same night he scored in England Under 19’s win over Serbia.

“When you look at what my brother has been doing this season, I don’t think you can get a much better role model than that,” he said.

“I am so happy about what he is doing and hopefully, I can be on the pitch alongside him soon.

“Me and my brother try to help each other in our careers. We both watch each other’s games and if I need advice, I go to him and he gives me honest feedback.”

Another bright prospect

While he is yet to make his Premier League bow, Ramsey has a good shot at replicating his brother’s success.

He made his senior Villa debut as a second-half substitute in a 6-0 Carabao Cup win over Barrow and made Villa’s bench three times under Dean Smith last season.

The starlet continued to shine at youth level after Gerrard’s arrival, grabbing seven goals and three assists in just seven Premier League 2 matches.

Ramsey has recently had his first taste of true senior football with Cheltenham, making 15 appearances with nine being starts.

He scored his first senior goal in March against Wimbledon, while he also scored one and assisted another in the Papa John’s Trophy for Villa’s Under-23 side.

While he will need time and likely another loan to develop, Ramsey has bags of talent that could see him break into the Villa team.

In other Aston Villa news, former hero Alan Hutton has tipped Steven Gerrard to sign a star striker this summer.
