Tyrone Mings has no plans to leave Aston Villa after previous Newcastle interest
Tyrone Mings will remain at Aston Villa next season despite interest from Newcastle United, according to a report in The Athletic.
When Villa signed Diego Carlos earlier this summer, it left many wondering if Mings could be heading for the exit after a difficult 2021/22 season.
However, The Athletic’s Gregg Evans has poured cold water on those rumours on Monday [20 June], reporting that he will remain a key part of Villa’s plans.

“Mings has no interest in leaving and has received assurances that he is a part of the future,” he wrote.
“Newcastle United were considering him as an option back in January when they were looking for a left-sided centre-back, but it did not progress.
“As Villa’s captain, he was told a new defender would arrive this summer to increase competition for places.”

Is this the right move?
Mings is a player that often comes in for criticism from Villa fans, with many believing he is too slow and inconsistent for Villa.
Gareth Southgate was also unconvinced by Mings towards the end of the season, dropping him from the England squad for the Nations League fixtures this month.
However, Aston Villa consistently stuck by him.
The 29-year-old has missed just nine matches since promotion in 2019, just two of which came last season. He is known to be a very progressive centre-back, favouring carrying the ball out from defence and contributing to attacks.
It is this mentality that has made him one of the most productive centre-backs in the league, grabbing five goals and seven assists over the last three seasons.
However, this season was undoubtedly a step back for Mings compared to his earlier form.
Dean Smith appeared to lose patience with him towards the end of his time at Villa, dropping him for his penultimate match as Villa boss against West Ham.
Despite this, he was far from the only Villa player to slip back this season.
Mings is still a fine defender on his day and the arrival of Carlos could prove to be a major boost for him and focus his mind ahead of the new season.
