Aston Villa set to finalise £3million sale of Mahmoud Trezeguet – report

Mahmoud Trezeguet is set to leave Aston Villa as the club finalise a deal to sell him to Trabzonspor this summer, the Daily Mail reports.

The Egyptian was a regular contributor when he signed from Kasimpasa in 2019 but has fallen out of favour and spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Istanbul Basaksehir.

Fabrizio Romano had reported on Twitter on 9 June that negotiations between the two sides had begun, with interest from outside of Turkey also present.

The negotiations look to have been successful as a £3million fee has been agreed and a return to the Turkish Super Lig is apparently imminent.

Steven Gerrard is looking to move on a number of fringe players from his squad as he looks to bring in further signings.

The Mail report that Bertrand Traore, Anwar El Ghazi and Morgan Sanson could be sold if a good enough offer comes in, while there is interest in both Douglas Luiz and Cameron Acher.

Busy

Gerrard is clearly not a big believer in keeping players around if he hasn’t got immediate plans for them, and seems to have an eye on various more arrivals.

From a total of 64 appearances in a Villans shirt Trezeguet managed a grand total of 10 minutes before his loan move to the Turkish capital so he is clearly a long way from the first XI.

Getting his wages off the books will be useful although the minor fee won’t make much of a dent in the outgoing figures this summer.

The 27-year-old has 55 international caps and is sure to have something to offer elsewhere, but he was an early signing when Dean Smith’s side returned to the Premier League when this was a very different team.

In the time since there have been significant changes at Villa Park and there are grand plans to be much more than bottom half of the table side.

With few prospects remaining at the club a permanent sale makes sense for all parties, for a player who had his fair share of moments during his first two seasons.

In other Aston Villa news, the club will not make an approach for Alex Oxlade- Chamberlain.
