Alan Hutton reacts as Ashley Young reportedly closes in on new Aston Villa contract
We’re delighted to welcome former Scotland defender Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa...
Alan Hutton has admitted it is a smart move by Aston Villa as they reportedly close in on a new contract for Ashley Young this summer.
The former Villa right-back insisted that the England international brings brilliant experience to Steven Gerrard’s squad, and that can be “vital”.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday (14 June) that talks were progressing between both parties with another one-year deal on the cards.

“Of course, it is,” he exclusively told Villa News. “He’s got a whole lot of experience, he was on it.
“They were still trying to negotiate a new contact, and it will be a good signing again. He’s capable of the demands of the Premier League when he stays fit, he’s also very versatile as he can cover at left-back, and can cover at right-back, he can play in wide areas.
“To have someone like that in your squad can be vital.”

Smart.
Gerrard is improving all angles of his squad this summer, that is very clear.
Big-name new signings in the shape of Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos will improve the squad dramatically, with youth also being brought in to bolster the academy.
Now with Young set to sign a new contract, the experience that will be on offer at the top of the squad will be immense in all scenarios.
Even if the England international doesn’t play too much, he will be worth his weight in gold in the shape of coaching and being around the squad on matchday.
With talks progressing, it will be brilliant if this one can be confirmed sooner rather than later.
In other Aston Villa news, Cameron Archer is expected to be on the club’s pre-season tour of Australia.
