Steven Gerrard to make decision on Aston Villa starlet Cameron Archer

Steven Gerrard will “run rule” over Aston Villa youngster Cameron Archer amid increasing interest from a host of clubs interested in his service, according to the Express & Star

The centre-forward bagged 20 goals across all competitions during a rather successful 2021/22 campaign that will come to a close as England’s U21s take on Slovenia on Monday [13 June].

His impressive form whilst on loan with Preston has seen the Championship outfit keen to take him back to Deepdale next season.

Middlesbrough and Rangers are also keeping tabs on Archer’s situation ahead of a potential move this summer.

However, the Villans boss wants to take a closer look at the attacker over pre-season before making a decision on his future.

Having signed a Lions contract until 2025, the sharp-shooter is highly-rated at Villa Park.

Loan him.

This should be a fairly easy decision for Gerrard. You can keep Archer at Aston Villa at most likely limit his game time or you can send him out on loan – those will be the only two options.

He is far too good and young to sell and he is undoubtedly a part of the clubs’ future considering the hype around him and that simply won’t be an option.

With the Villans amidst a huge summer rebuild with more players seemingly set to come and go from Villa Park, it would be a waste to keep him at the club.

Archer would be massively hindered in terms of his game time and he really needs to be playing first-team football to improve.

He already proved himself at Preston in the 2021/22 campaign and needs to test his metal yet again.

Maybe a step up at Rangers would be a good test for him.
