Steven Gerrard doesn’t want Aston Villa to sell Tyrone Mings – report
Aston Villa are not expected to sell Tyrone Mings this summer as Steven Gerrard considers him an important part of the squad, according to Birmingham Mail [June 7].
Villa have had a busy summer transfer window already, completing the signings of Philippe Coutinho, Boubacar Kamara, Diego Carlos and Rob Olsen before it even officially opens.
But the arrival of centre-back Carlos from Sevilla sparked speculation about the future of captain Mings, with Newcastle United linked with a potential £35m move.

The report claims that Villa boss Gerrard wants to add more leaders to his squad without losing vital experience and that means the England international will stay put.
Villa still want to sign a left-sided defender, a central midfielder and a striker this summer as they look to improve upon their 14th place finish in the Premier League in the 2021/22 season.
Loyalty
Gerrard has always been big on rewarding loyalty and now he’s doing that with his captain, who has done nothing but perform for him sicne he joined.
Mings played in 26 of Gerrard’s 27 Premier League games last season, only missing one through suspension. Immediately that shows how important he is to the squad and to Gerrard’s plans immediately.

As a left-footed centre back he provides balance in the back line, but he also commands respect from his teammates and the fans tend to love him mostly.
Ezri Konsa is out for several months and there are question marks about whether Kourtney Hause and Calum Chambers are good enough long term, so it makes more sense to keep Mings than sell him.
So now the speculation can stop and the club can continue to make their plans for the new season knowing that Mings will be part of the squad going forward.
