Steven Gerrard still wants Aston Villa to sign three more players – report

Steven Gerrard wants Aston Villa to sign a left back, central midfielder and striker before the transfer window closes according to Express and Star.

Villa have been the busiest side in the Premier League so far this summer, completing four permanent signings already with Philippe Coutinho, Boubacar Kamara, Diego Carlos and Robert Olsen all completing their moves to the club.

But a fresh report from Express and Star [June 4] claims the former Liverpool captain has already identified three more positions that need filling ahead of the new campaign.

“Boss Steven Gerrard would like to add another left-back, midfielder and striker to the ranks before the transfer window closes,” the report is quoted as saying.

“But recruiting another centre-back is not on the agenda and reports linking them with Burnley’s Ben Mee are thought to be wide of the mark.”

With Carlos already secured for the defence, Gerrard and Villa have moved on to other positions to improve on their 14th place finish in the 2021/22 season.

Busy

Getting all the business done early is something that every Premier League manager wishes before every transfer window, but Gerrard seems to be getting exactly that.

Four signings done before some players have even gone on holiday because of the international break is amazing work by the club and means they can put all their efforts into the more difficult deals.

Yves Bissouma remains a target for midfield although the club are wary of spending too much on any one target, while there have been links to Sergio Gomez [The Athletic, June 1] for the left back position.

Luis Suarez has been ruled out as a striker option despite some initial interest in a transfer, while Ollie Watkins has been linked with a potential exit.

But the club are clearly very confident and clear about what they want and need and there is clearly a plan in place to get it done.
