View: Aston Villa should let Jose Mourinho sign Douglas Luiz for Roma

Jose Mourinho has turned his attention to Aston Villa for his next signing as Roma manager as he wants Brazilian Douglas Luiz in Serie A.

The 24-year-old has been a regular feature of the Villa team ever since he joined the club from Manchester City but the incoming arrival of Boubacar Kamara on a free transfer from Marseille could scupper his chances of maintaining his position.

The Daily Mail have been reporting of Roma’s interest in Luiz as “The Special One”, as Mourinho labels himself continues to add a Premier League spice to the Roman’s dish with Tammy Abraham and Chris Smalling already at the Olympic Stadium.

Steven Gerrard and Mourinho rarely got on during the Villa boss’ playing days so negotiations might not be the smoothest for either party but he should not stand in Luiz’s way if he wants to go.

Now that we have Kamara in the bag, we have a real star in the making and he is best when playing the defensive midfield position that has previously been the Brazilian’s without contest.

But he will be the backup at best next season once the French international settles in the Midlands so if Roma are going to offer us a good enough deal, why not accept?

Luiz has been a great servant to the club and no one would have any issue if he was still in the squad and playing regular minutes, whether from the start or off the bench, in the 2022-23 campaign.

But he needs to be playing every single week and he can’t get that guarantee here so if a club desperately wants him, then let’s wave him goodbye and focus on the rest of our talented squad.

In other Aston Villa news, Gerrard has been watching training of another Premier League side ahead of a major game this weekend.
