Aston Villa agree deal for Sevilla defender Diego Carlos
Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Sevilla defender Diego Carlos subject to medical and agreeing personal terms, the club has confirmed.
According to Sky Sports the fee for the 29-year-old will be £26million, which would take the club’s recent spending to £43million after the permanent signing of Philippe Coutinho.
The club has already secured a deal for Marseille free agent Boubacar Kamara.
The club’s statement said: “Aston Villa can confirm the Club has reached an agreement with Sevilla FC for the transfer of Diego Carlos for an undisclosed fee.
“The player will travel to England in the next few hours to complete a medical and finalise personal terms.
“Diego Carlos, a Brazilian central defender, has been a virtual ever-present in Sevilla’s successful La Liga and European campaigns over the last three seasons, playing 136 matches, including in Sevilla’s victorious appearance in the 2020 Europa League final against Inter Milan.”
Big movers
The Villans are making some major moves early, and the prospects for next season are certainly looking bright.
Steve Gerrard is assembling an expensive but exciting looking squad, and looks not to be finished yet.
The club are still reportedly hoping to add James Tarkowski on a free transfer after his contract expires with Burnley, despite the impending arrival of Olympic gold medalist Carlos.

The Mail report that they have offered the 29-year-old a £120,000-a-week contract in order to beat Everton to his signature.
The arrival of both centre-backs would presumably end Gerrard’s chase for Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, unless there are some significant exits.
What the current moves mean for captain Tyrone Mings is yet to be seen, but he may be a candidate for the exit door with former boss Eddie Howe interested at Newcastle (Mirror).
The Magpies were close to a deal for Carlos in January but walked away when the Spanish side demanded £38million for him (Sky).
They have clearly lowered their valuations now and the Villans are the beneficiaries at the start of a blockbuster transfer window.
Expectations will be high when the new season begins, and the team will need to deliver or Gerrard may carry the can.
In other Aston Villa news, QPR have made an approach for coach Micheal Beale.
