Tottenham want to sign Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn – report
Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn has emerged as a target for Tottenham boss Antonio Conte this summer after they all but secured Champions League football.
The Scottish midfielder joined Villa back in 2018 under Steve Bruce and has established himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet ever since under several different managers too.
He was a key player under Dean Smith and is one of the first names on the teamsheet under current boss Steven Gerrard, but his performances have alerted him to Spurs boss Conte who is looking to make six signings according to The Telegraph.

Spurs are set to lose both Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Winks this summer meaning they are in search of a new central midfielder and the 27-year-old’s combative and energetic style ticks the boxes for them.
While a fee isn’t mentioned in the report he is unlikely to be cheap, but he isn’t considered to be one of the higher earners at the club currently and Champions League football could potentially tempt him to move further south.
Blow
Gerrard is known to want to strengthen the side considerably this summer, so McGinn leaving the club will not be in his plans and would be a huge blow if it were to happen.
The Scot has shown since joining that he is more than capable of performing to a higher level, often standing out in the games against the bigger sides.

European football has so far alluded him in his career and another opportunity won’t definitely come around, after he signed a contract extension back in 2020 until 2025 where he will be in his thirties.
No fan would begrudge him the move, but considering the direction that the club is pulling in right now and far they’ve come in a short space of time they’d hope that he gives them at least one more season to try and really give Europe a run.
But if Spurs make a big money bid, then there could be little the club can do if they want to bolster their squad and the player decides he wants to make the move.
