Gary Neville makes Gerrard-Liverpool admission ahead of Manchester City v Aston Villa
Gary Neville believes that the Aston Villa players will not care about who they are playing on the final day of the season.
Liverpool will be within a point of Manchester City if they win their game in hand against Southampton on Tuesday night (May 17).
However, for them to win the title, they will also have to win their final match and hope that Villa take away points from City when they play on Sunday.

Discussing the possibility of Steven Gerrard asking his Villa players to do it for his former club, Neville said live on Instagram, “I don’t buy into this Steven Gerrard thing at all, the fact that he’s going to go there and he’s going to get them fired up.
“Trust me, the Villa players won’t give two hoots who they’re playing on Sunday. They’re not connected to the Liverpool emotion bit.
“Steven Gerrard can’t go in and say, ‘I’m ex-Liverpool, make sure you win this one for Liverpool.’ The players will just laugh at him! So this idea, this Gerrard thing, that he’ll go there and win for [Liverpool] is just absolute nonsense. That is not going to happen.”
Spot on
The Villa players will want to win the game because that’s who they are not who their manager once played for.
If the consequence of a win means handing Liverpool the title then so be it.
However, Gerrard is not naive enough to go into the dressing room and ask them to win it for the Reds.
That’ll instantly bring his opinion down in the minds of the players and they will start to question his methods.
If West Ham can take points off City then there’s no reason why Villa cannot.
They’re looking to end the season strongly and what a way it will be if they end up shaping where the Premier League title eventually heads to.
In other Aston Villa news, Steven Gerrard is very keen to bring Liverpool defender Joe Gomez to the club.
