Aston Villa want to sign Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara – report

Steven Gerrard wants to bolster the midfield at Aston Villa and he has identified Boubacar Kamara from Marseille as the man for him.

According to The Sun, the 22-year-old is high on the Villans’ shortlist and they haven’t been put off by his high wage demands like some other Premier League sides have been in the past few months.

Interest in Kamara is high because his contract at the Velodrome is expiring at the end of this season so he will be available on a free transfer come 1 July.

Manchester United and Newcastle have both followed his progress with interest but it’s Villa who look ready to offer a bumper deal for him to bring him to the Midlands.

Gerrard would need to let at least one player leave as a result to keep the finances in check but there could be a few comings and goings over the course of this summer.

No brainer

If Villa were paying £20million or even more for this deal, then you could understand a little more hesitation from our side but this is free.

We don’t need to pay Marseille a single penny to get Kamara to trade France for England, all we need to do is offer a good enough contract that he and his agent can’t refuse and he’s ours.

Where that could trip us up is in the fact that Kamara will have definitely seen our offer to Philippe Coutinho to make him stay permanently so he now knows we’ve got the clobber.

That might just hike up his wage demands but when you’re signing someone for nothing, you can afford to spend that little bit extra on his weekly wage because you haven’t got to fork out cash for the club either.

He’s certainly an upgrade on Douglas Luiz in the holding midfield destroyer position and the Frenchman’s arrival could spell the end of the Brazilian’s Villa Park stay.

In other Aston Villa news, Barcelona have robbed Villa with the sell-on clause in Coutinho’s contract.
