Steven Gerrard very keen to bring Liverpool defender Joe Gomez to Aston Villa – report
Steven Gerrard is reportedly very keen that Aston Villa sign Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez this summer.
According to Eurosport journalist Dean Jones, the club are going to be linked with several defenders from now until the transfer window closes.
Gomez is one player who has been on Gerrard’s radar for a while due to his contractual situation and they’re waiting to see if the Reds offer him a new deal.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones said, “I honestly think Villa will be linked with loads of centre-backs between now and June.
“Joe Gomez is obviously one that Gerrard has had his eye on for a while now with his contract situation – still possible that Liverpool renew that, though, so he’s waiting to see.”
Good move
If Gerrard can tempt Gomez to leave Anfield for a regular starting berth at Villa Park then it will be viewed as a major coup.
After signing Ibrahima Konate, there’s a chance that the England international falls in Jurgen Klopp’s pecking order next season.
Liverpool’s loss can be Villa’s gain and that’s precisely why they need to be clever about how to play this situation.
They should continue monitoring the player while also being in touch with his representatives.
Gomez is someone who can play at right-back as well and given Matty Cash’s attacking instincts, Gerrard can even think of deploying a back three with them in the squad.
It remains to be seen if Villa can manage to get this move over the line.
In other Aston Villa news, the club are set to intensify Philippe Coutinho talks in the coming weeks.
