Matty Cash: Steven Gerrard hungry for Aston Villa win as Liverpool hunt Premier League title

Matty Cash has insisted that Steven Gerrard is completely focused on his Aston Villa job ahead of the clash with his former side, Liverpool.

The Lions welcome Jurgen Klopp’s side to Villa Park on Tuesday [May 10] evening where they will look to build on their 3-1 win over Burnley last time out.

Despite being a Reds legend, Cash has insisted that the boss will still want to win amid their push for the Premier League title.

Cash told Express & Star: “He’s here at Villa now. What he did for Liverpool, he’s one of their best-ever players and I am sure it will be a bit emotional for him, like going back to Anfield was. But he will want us to win.”

He added: “It is one of those games you really want to play in. I think the atmosphere will be amazing.

“They’re coming, they need to win. We want to finish in the top half of the table so we want to win. It will be really good. They are the big games which everyone watches.”

Professional.

Gerrard is the Aston Villa manager and that is the only thing that matters as far as he and the Villans fans are concerned.

It doesn’t matter who he played for before, how good he was or his legendary status – he is a professional and will undoubtedly act in the right manner as the team he supports visits and looks for three points.

He was excellent in the Lions’ last meeting with Liverpool at Anfield – maintaining 100% focus for the Lions at all times no matter how hard the home fans sang his name.

Make no mistake, Gerrard is an outstanding professional who will only have his sights set on his team’s targets on Tuesday but that might be easier said than done as the Reds look to bounce back from their draw with Tottenham on the weekend.

Villa have a brilliant chance of finishing in the top half after the win against Burnley and the manager will want to climb as high up the table as possible before the end of the season.

In other Aston Villa news, the manager has seen what former sides Liverpool and Rangers have done in Europe this year and wants the Villans to do so too
