Richard Keys blasts Emi Martinez for time wasting during Aston Villa win v Burnley
Richard Keys blasted Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez for time wasting during the first half the win over Burnley in the Premier League.
Villa held a 2-0 lead at half-time at Turf Moor thanks to well taken goals by Danny Ings and Emiliano Buendia, but the goalkeeper incurred boos from the home crowd for time wasting throughout the half.
After officials only gave two minutes of stoppage time at the end of the half, Keys told beIN SPORTS that he didn’t understand why the Argentine was making himself ‘public enemy number one’.

“Well that frustration is because Martinez has done nothing but continue to waste time since the first whistle,” he said.
“I don’t understand why. There’s nothing on it for Villa. I don’t know why he’s making himself public enemy number one, nor being as difficult as he has been in possession.”
Management
While it may seem as though there is nothing riding on this game for Villa, they need a win to ensure the season doesn’t end on a whimper and to continue Steven Gerrard’s progression of the team.
They are safe from relegation, but they will not be happy with the club’s 15th place standing in the Premier League currently and will want to improve on it.

The only way for that to happen is with victory and by winning games it helps to install a winning mentality. That is needed with the club keen to improve for next season.
Martinez is one of the more successful members of the squad having won the FA Cup and Copa America with Arsenal and Argentina over recent years.
If that’s what it takes to win games, then it’s best to get it in early and get the rest of the squad up to task before we refresh with a new slate for the new campaign.
