Carney Chukwuemeka could leave Aston Villa this summer – Fabrizio Romano
Carney Chukwuemeka could leave Aston Villa this summer as he enters the final year of his contract, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The academy graduate has seen himself promoted into the first-team this season under both Dean Smith and Steven Gerrard, but has so far refused to sign fresh terms with the club.
Now after not seeing as much game time as he would like, the 18-year-old has attracted attention from a host of European clubs and could leave.
According to a tweet by highly reliable journalist Romano, there are a number of Bundesliga clubs exploring the possibility of sealing a deal for the midfielder.
He says Germany seems like a ‘likely destination’, with Gerrard already confirming that there has been no progress in talks for a new deal.
Blow
For a club who pride themselves on bringing youth players through the academy, losing a starlet like Chukwuemeka would be a big blow for Villa.
Of the very talented group currently at the club, he seemed to be best placed to break through into the team after Jacob Ramsey and his performances when he has played have been good.

But with the team struggling for results his game time has been limited, and Gerrard is planning on spending big money this summer in order to improve the squad.
That will likely see him drop even further down the pecking order, meaning this summer would be the only chance the club have of getting some money for him or risk losing him for free.
If possible the club should look to enter a buy-back clause into any deal because his talent is so great, but it seems as though they’re set to lose an academy starlet for a second summer running.
