Ben Chrisene to jump into Aston Villa squad v Leicester City

Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Aston Villa starlet Ben Chrisene will feature in the matchday squad to face Leicester City, as shared by Birmingham Live.

The Villans travel to the King Power Stadium on Saturday [April 23] afternoon as the former Liverpool legend looks to take a big step towards a top ten finish.

With English veteran Ashley Young expected to start at full-back, 18-year-old Chrisene will act as cover on the Villans bench.

The new boss must really rate the England youth international to be awarding him a place on the bench at such a young age.

It is very unlikely that he will play but being involved in the first-team set-up will be huge for Chrisene.

The left-back has only made four Premier League 2 appearances having moved up to the U23 set-up this season and now he finds himself ready to feature with the big boys at Villa Park.

It will be a great opportunity to learn and build that hunger for the youngster ahead of what is hopefully a very long and successful Lions career.

However, this is a worrying sign for Villa. Admittedly, they have so many injuries at the minute but having to call upon a kid isn’t a good sign in terms of squad depth.

Gerrard will be eager to address that issue in the summer when the owners give him a war chest to stamp his mark on the team and kickstart his Villans career after a good but inconsistent start with Dean Smith’s team.

This game is vital, a win against his former boss Brendan Rodgers will see the Villans climb up to 12th with six games remaining in a rather disappointing season.
