Steven Gerrard thrilled with ‘extremely consistent’ Aston Villa ace Matty Cash

Matty Cash has had a big impact at Aston Villa this season with manager Steven Gerrard singing his praises to the media.

Cash, 24, has started all of Villa’s Premier League games this season and also earned his first four caps for the Poland national team.

He’s been in great form and Gerrard is delighted by the former Nottingham Forest player’s steady performances during his reign as manager.

“In the main he’s been extremely consistent,” said Gerrard, as quoted by the Express & Star. “I think he’s the one in the team that has had the most difficult one v one challenges throughout the fixtures we’ve played and I think in the main he’s handled himself extremely well.

“I absolutely love working with him, he’s very infectious, a good kid and what strikes me about him is he’s desperate to improve and desperate to get better.”

Cash has enjoyed a meteoric rise during his time at Aston Villa.

The Slough-born right-back was a steady performer at Nottingham Forest and soon made himself one of the best right-backs in the Championship.

Since joining Villa in September 2020 for £14million, he’s managed to get better and better.

Cash is a solid contender to be Villa’s player of the season this term with the right-back chipping in with three goals and four assists across all competitions, plus some fine defensive work against the Premier League’s top wide players.

He’s also been instrumental in Poland’s qualification for the World Cup, playing all 90 minutes of their qualifier play-off win over Sweden last month.

Poland have since been drawn into a group containing Argentina, Mexico and Saudi Arabia.

It’s a group that the Poles could qualify from and one that could see Cash being tasked with dealing with Lionel Messi.
