Aston Villa want to sign Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter – report

Aston Villa want to sign Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter in the upcoming summer, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The German journalist has reported that Steven Gerrard wants the transfer, and officials have opened talks with the management of the player already.

Ginter is said to have not yet made a decision, as he waits for other options to present themselves after the current season has finished.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, reliable journalist Plettneberg shared the major update as Villa hunt for the German enforcer.

“News, Ginter: Gerrard wants him,” he wrote.

“Aston Villa officials have spoken to his management. But Ginter has not made a decision yet. He waits for other options.”

Needed.

If there was one area that needed reinforcements, it is the defence.

Ezri Konsa and Tyrone Mings have both had their critics for quite some time at Villa Park, yet they have not yet been replaced, even with the signing of Calum Chambers.

Bringing in a recognised international defender would no doubt strengthen the back four, with Lucas Digne and Matty Cash having cemented their spots at either side.

Ginter may not be the only defender brought in over the summer, with Gerrard clearly targeting new faces to create a squad capable of pushing for European football.

Having played in the Champions League, Ginter fits perfectly into the category of players that Villa will look to tempt with a big move into the Premier League.

This could be a huge summer ahead, and this would be a perfect signing.
