View: Aston Villa talent Jacob Ramsey emulates Steven Gerrard with England U21 masterclass
Aston Villa fans would have been delighted on Friday evening as Jacob Ramsey announced himself on the international stage for England under-21s.
The young midfielder starred in the 4-1 win against Andorra, smashing home a long-range drive which saw great comparisons to Steven Gerrard.
Ramsey has no doubt been the standout talent at Villa Park this season, with his ability to burst into the final third and get his name on the scoresheet incredible.
Speaking live on Sky Sports commentary last night, as shared on Twitter, Daniel Mann was stunned by Ramsey as he smashed home from outside of the box.
“There was no stopping that,” he said.
“England gain themselves a little bit of breathing space in thunderous style.”
Who does that remind you of?
Gerrard made a career off of scoring goals such as this one, and if that is one area Ramsey can consistently add to his game, we will be in for a real treat moving forward.
Of course, the gaffer was one of the best midfielders of his generation who had it all, with his leadership qualities, toughness and crunching tackles all top-notch.
If Ramsey can add those characteristics to his own game by working closely with Gerrard in the years to come, he would be a frightening proposition for others to take on.
These are crucial years ahead for the young midfielder, and we honestly can’t wait to see what he looks like after a couple of years of working with the gaffer.
Based on this evidence from last night, we are all in for a treat.
In other Aston Villa news, Gerrard will be backed by NSWE in the summer
