The Belgium international has just seen out the World Cup after his side were knocked out in the quarter-finals.

The midfielder missed out on the clash with Spain after withdrawing through injury in his pre-match warm-up.

That sent the shivers down the spine of everyone in B6, especially after Amadou Onana's ACL tear.

There have been fears about how long he could be missing for, but it now appears that he could be on the move anyway.

Tielemans is now on the brink of a move to Man United in an utterly bizarre deal away from Villa Park.

Manchester United activate Youri Tielemans release clause at Aston Villa

The excitement of signing Johan Manzambi has quickly evaporated as the 29-year-old looks set to leave.

David Ornstein reported on Monday that the Red Devils are in advanced talks to sign the midfielder.

That was quickly followed by a detail from John Percy that shared Tielemans' £35million release clause.

The Villans have no interest in selling him, but that clause gives them no leg to stand on this summer.

A deal could go through within days, with the Belgian already voicing his appreciation for the Old Trafford outfit in the past.

What has Tielemans said about a Manchester United move?

There was no expectation this summer that the former Leicester City man would be on the move.

It is frustrating that it is in a move to the Red Devils, but they have held long-term interest in his signature.

They were linked with a move for the midfielder in the summer of 2019 after an impressive spell at Leicester.

Sky Sports asked Tielemans about his thoughts on a move and he remained clear how much it meant to him.

He said: "Yes [I am flattered by Man United interest], they are really big teams in England and in Europe. To hear those names gives me confidence. I just try to play my game on the pitch and try my best."

That opinion seems to still be in his mind seven years later as he finally looks set to fulfil that wish.

Villa now need to be clever in the market to replace him, but that will be far from an easy task.
