Diego Carlos is said to be facing an "uncertain" future at Aston Villa with Wolves potentially set to consider reigniting their interest in the defender, according to the Telegraph.

The news outlet reported on 1 January that Villa will be looking to offload several players in January and Carlos could be one of them given his failure to perform this season.

Wolves reportedly held an interest in the Brazillian previously and that could resurface this January with an exit a real possibility for the 31-year-old.

The Telegraph have said that finances will be "tight" at Villa Park and the sale of Carlos could go a long way towards rectifying that, with rivals Wolves a shock potential destination.

Diego Carlos set for Aston Villa exit?

Carlos is evidently not fancied by Unai Emery having started just eight Premier League games this season and making an extra two appearances off the bench with Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa rightfully preferred.

Given the value that he likely holds from a financial sense. his exit in January would make sense for all parties with Villa getting some wiggle room to conduct their own business while Carlos can find a club to get regular game time and in this case, Wolves would be an excellent option.

Since the sacking of Gary O'Neil, they've had somewhat of a resurgence and the addition of such an experienced defender will only boost their hopes of avoiding the drop.

Carlos' wages could be somewhat of an issue for any deal but it shouldn't prevent one from getting done in the window.

Under the stewardship of Emery, Villa are having a decent season and if they can bring in some additional quality, their chances of achieving Champions League qualification will be boosted significantly.
