Why Aston Villa would sign Nicolas Jackson on loan after Chelsea latest
Aston Villa have once again been linked with a move for Nicolas Jackson.
The Senegal international is set for a return to Chelsea after his World Cup campaign.
He spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich, but obviously played second fiddle to Harry Kane.
The 25-year-old still contributed to 14 goals and assists across all competitions under Vincent Kompany.
He is now set for a Stamford Bridge comeback as his future hangs in the balance under Xabi Alonso.
Villa have once again been mentioned in the same sentence as Jackson, but there is only one way a deal can be arranged.
Why Aston Villa can only sign Nicolas Jackson on loan
There is a feeling that Unai Emery would love to work with the forward again.
The pair combined at Villarreal as the Senegalese ace netted 13 and assisted five in his final campaign there.
That earned him a move to Chelsea, but Villa News has regularly covered a longstanding interest in Jackson at Villa Park.
Those links have emerged once again this summer and have taken a step up as Morgan Rogers looks set to join the Blues.
David Ornstein reported on Saturday that a £117million move has been agreed for the England international.
That has lead many to suggest that Jackson could move the other way, but that will only be the case if a loan can be arranged.
UEFA rules dictate that transfers count as "a player exchange transaction" or swap deal when players move between clubs within 45 days of each other.
Should Rogers depart as Jackson comes in, it would halt Villa from booking the full profit of their £117m sale.
UEFA would assess whether that is a fair market value and could drop that fee considerably to their own figure for their own financial compliance calculations.
As a result, Villa will avoid any chance of that happening, so would only sign Jackson if a loan deal was possible this summer.
Aston Villa already have Morgan Rogers replacement
It will be a blow to lose the 23-year-old, but that £117m fee is still unbelievably great business.
That is only made better by the fact that Villa have already signed Johan Manzambi from Freiburg.
The deal narrowly upwards of £50m has already been completed and announced, so he will soon be ready to star in claret and blue.
The 20 year old's ability on the ball is arguably his standout talent, just like that of Rogers.
It is smart to have got that deal over the line before the Englishman's move to Chelsea as Freiburg missed the chance to drive up the price.
The Switzerland international has big shoes to fill and could still be joined by Jackson, but for now, he will be earmarked as the Rogers replacement.
