When Matteo Ruggeri could join Aston Villa as medical set
Matteo Ruggeri is edging closer to a move from Atletico Madrid to Aston Villa.
The Villans are now in desperate need of a left-back after the departure of Lucas Digne.
The France international finally completed his move back to the Champions League winners on Tuesday.
That has left the B6 outfit short in that area of the pitch as the Super Cup looms in Salzburg.
They don't look likely to be in that position for long as the Italian looks set to come in.
Villa are moving to seal a deal for Ruggeri and could do so within days.
How much are Aston Villa paying for Matteo Ruggeri?
There have been a number of full-back options linked with a move to the Midlands this summer.
It now appears that Unai Emery and Co. have made their final decision on their next signing.
That will likely see the 24-year-old come in through the doors at Bodymoor Heath ready for the new campaign.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday that a deal has been agreed for Villa to sign Ruggeri for a fixed £21million fee.
The agreement also features £1.2m in potential add-ons, with the defender also giving the green light to seal a move.
The ex-Atalanta man is set to undergo travel to B6 for his medical this week should documents be approved within hours.
When could announce Ruggeri signing?
The Villans have finally got a "here we go" from the transfer specialist after a long wait.
Things have certainly gone quiet for the claret and blue outfit, but business could now take a step up.
If that is to happen, it looks set to begin with Ruggeri who could come through the door as early as the end of this week.
A move hinges on documents being approved between Villa and Atletico as soon as possible.
There is also the chance that proceedings move into the early days of next week as the B6 faithful await an announcement.
Villa will just be keen to get a deal over the line in time for the opening day of the Premier League season.
