Aston Villa are still keeping an eye on the midfielder market with Leicester City prospect Louis Page on their radar.

The Villans have been busy in the midfield department this summer already.

Joao Gomes and Johan Manzambi have arrived at Villa Park, with Youri Tielemans departing for Manchester United.

Business has been needed, especially with Amadou Onana picking up a long-term knee injury at the World Cup.

It seems that Page is a player that the B6 side fancy and whether or not a deal is likely to arrive has seemingly emerged.

As Aston Villa are not the only side keeping tabs on the England youth international.

Fans will be hoping for more business to be completed ahead of the upcoming season.

On paper, the Villans are a weaker side compared to last campaign, with Tielemans and Rogers departing.

However, Unai Emery is a top manager and will be able to get the best out of his current crop.

One player he has had an eye on to add to that squad is midfielder Page.

According to BBC Sport, Aston Villa have "shown a big interest" in the Foxes' Page, who just recently turned 18.

However, Emery's side would face quite the tough battle in order to win the battle for his signature amid stronger interest elsewhere.

Arsenal are among those that, like Villa have shown significant admiration for the midfielder.

But, it is Manchester United who are in pole position to sign the 18-year-old, who has earned 21 senior appearances already.

The Red Devils and the Foxes are in talks over a possible deal this summer, with negotiations ongoing.

Villa are still looking to add another midfielder as well amid ongoing links with Joao Palhinha.

Aston Villa should remain ready for Page hijack

Although talks are open and ongoing, that does not mean that Manchester United will see a positive conclusion.

If that is the case, then Villa could be waiting in the wings over a potential deal for Page.

It would also allow Emery's side to understand the conditions the League One side were asking for in their original talks with Manchester United.

However, it does certainly seem that Villa have fallen behind Michael Carrick's outfit in this transfer race.
