Aston Villa are getting ever closer to completing the signing of Johan Manzambi.

It was reported last week that Villa had agreed a deal worth around £51million to sign the 20-year-old Freiburg midfielder.

Newcastle United had been heavily tipped to sign the Switzerland midfielder before Villa beat the Magpies to the punch.

Signing Manzambi will go someway to softening the blow of losing Youri Tielemans to Manchester United.

The Belgium midfielder completed his move to Old Trafford on Tuesday in a reported £35m deal.

There has been a new update on Manzambi's transfer, and Villa News has looked at three other players who could sign after him.

Pervis Estupinan

Villa News has previously covered how Villa moved ahead of Newcastle in the race for Manzambi.

Now, Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed the deal between Villa and Freiburg is complete.

He added that Manzambi is set to undergo his medical at Villa Park on Thursday as he inches closer to completing his transfer.

It is a good start for Villa, who could do with several new additions to bolster their squad ahead of returning to the Champions League next season.

One such area is left-back, with Lucas Digne on the verge of moving to Paris Saint-Germain to act as cover for Nuno Mendes.

Ian Maatsen is, of course, still on the books but Villa are looking for more cover there.

Former Brighton full-back Pervis Estupinan is the predominant name being linked with Villa Park having failed to become a first-team regular at AC Milan.

It looks like that deal certainly has some legs and is one to keep an eye on moving forward.

Joao Palhinha

Even with the impending arrival of Manzambi, Villa are looking a little short in midfield.

Losing Tielemans to a rival is a big blow, and it followed the news of a serious injury to his Belgium team-mate Amadou Onana.

With Boubacar Kamara having been out injured since January, it leaves Villa light in the centre of the park.

Joao Palhinha is one name who has been mentioned, with Tottenham opting not sign the Bayern Munich midfielder after his loan spell last term.

He would offer plenty of experience and Premier League pedigree, which is exactly what Unai Emery could do with for the coming campaign.

Julian Quinones

Manzambi is not the only player who impressed at the World Cup who Villa are being linked with.

Julian Quinones enjoyed a fantastic World Cup for co-hosts Mexico, with the 29-year-old scoring four goals and providing one assist.

His tournament would ultimately come to an end in the last 16 as Mexico were beaten 3-2 by England.

Villa have reportedly targeted the Al-Qadsiah forward, and it looks possible that Villa could look to do a deal with the Saudi Pro League outfit.
