Sources: Rory Wilson set for another Aston Villa loan exit at 'overachieving club'

Aston Villa are ready to send Rory Wilson back out on loan abroad for a second time, Villa News understands.

The 20-year-old spent the second half of the 2025-26 campaign with Sturm Graz.

Wilson played four times for the Austrian club prior to returning to Villa Park in the summer.

However, he is now set to spend more time out on loan until the end of the calendar year.

Wilson has been with Villa since July 2022 after spending his formative years with Rangers.

There are high hopes for the young forward at Villa Park, but for now he will gain further experience elsewhere.

Rory Wilson set for regular minutes in Norway

Alan Hutton previously exclusively told Villa News of his hopes of Wilson breaking into Villa's first team over time.

Given he is still only 20, with just four senior appearances to his name, that was never likely to happen this campaign.

Villa News has been informed that Wilson is now in talks to join Norwegian side HamKam.

HamKam - or Hamarkameratene to give them their full name - are seventh in the Eliteserien.

They are selling star striker Mame Niang to Porto and need to find a replacement.

Described by one source as an "overachieving club", HamKam previously tried to sign Wilson on loan in January but missed out to Sturm Graz.

Both clubs are working on reaching an agreement, with the Scotland Under-21s international set to play regularly if a move goes through.

The agreement would last until the Norwegian season finishes in mid-December, and would make perfect sense for all involved.

Why HamKam move would suit Villa and Wilson in equal measure

Wilson signed a contract extension with Villa in April last year, so pleased were the Villans with his progress

Wilson did not feature all that regularly for Sturm Graz, but playing for a team with experience of competing in Europe would have benefited him.

He is now arguably taking a step up as Wilson will start regularly for HamKam, where he will be expected to score goals.

The fact it is only a five-month deal means there is also the option of sending Wilson back out in January, whether to another team abroad or perhaps closer to home.

For now, everyone at Villa will just be keeping tabs on how he gets on, assuming there are no hitches for a deal to be struck.
