Rashford’s future at Aston Villa has been subject to plenty of speculation over recent months.

The England international has been a regular starter in Unai Emery’s side as they push for Champions League football.

Rashford was signed on loan in the winter transfer window, with Villa having a £40 million option to sign the forward.

However, the 27-year-old now looks likely to return to Manchester United, despite the Red Devils not wanting the attacker.

Rashford ‘unlikely to play for Man United again’ despite Carrington return

The rumours around Rashford and Villa have been likened to a “circus” in recent weeks.

Despite another sensational Villa campaign, much of the paper talk is around the England international and where he will end up.

Barcelona are one of the favourites to sign Rashford, despite the Birmingham outfit also having an option to sign him.

Rashford's long-term future is still unknown

Now, with just two matches left of the campaign, Villa fans may not see Rashford play again, after he picked up an injury, ruling him out of the Tottenham match, while he is also ineligible to play against Man United next weekend.

As a result, according to The Times (15 May), the England international is likely to return to Man United’s training centre, Carrington, at the start of July if no suitors come in for him.

Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim has made it clear he wants Rashford to move on in the summer, and he is unlikely to play for Man United again.

Emery could sign the attacker for £40 million this summer but the England international could still reject this proposal.

The 27-year-old remains determined to play in the Champions League next season, and it remains to be seen if Villa achieves this feat.

Aston Villa must move on from Rashford

Since Rashford has joined the Birmingham outfit, drama has followed. It has been reported that Ollie Watkins wants to leave Villa after he lost his guaranteed starting spot.

On top of this, even if Emery does choose to sign Rashford, speculation will continue to surround the attacker about his next potential move.

Villa do not need this constant spotlight on them, and it would be best if they simply moved on to other targets this summer.

This might also convince Watkins to stay at Villa Park next season, which would be a big boost.
