Cameron Archer looks set to leave Aston Villa with his medical with Southampton booked, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer specialist reported on 16 August that the Villans have agreed a £15million fee to sell the 22-year-old.

Now the ex-England Under 21 international will have his medical on Friday (16 August) ahead of a move to the Saints.

Cameron Archer set to leave Aston Villa for Southampton

It just looks like it isn't to be for Archer at Villa Park, no matter how much supporters would love to see him succeed.

The academy product burst into the limelight with a hattrick against Barrow in the League Cup after a loan spell with Solihull Moors.

Further temporary moves away from the Midlands with Preston North End and Middlesbrough did little to dampen the excitement around the Englishman.

It came as a surprise that Unai Emery sold him to Sheffield United last summer but his return was met with some joy from fans who were looking forward to seeing him in a Villa shirt again.

Now it looks like the dream is over for the striker in claret and blue and a move to Southampton looks all but complete, other than his medical.

Now the Villans look light up front with Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran being the only available options in the number nine position moving forward.
