Leon Bailey exit increasingly likely as Aston Villa eye Crysencio Summerville swoop
Aston Villa's interest in Crysencio Summerville could spell trouble for Leon Bailey.
The Dutch winger was a standout player for the London Stadium side, notching seven goals and five assists in 34 matches in all competitions.
He is expected to be one of several players that the Hammers look to sell to raise the £150million that they need to prepare for the Championship.
Unai Emery's side need quality wingers and could make their move for the Irons ace, leaving the Jamaican in limbo.
What has been said about Aston Villa and Crysencio Summerville?
Summerville would be an upgrade on the 28-year-old, who has failed to convince Emery that he can step up.
ExWHUemployee has stated via West Ham Way that the Villa Park side are not the only ones who want him, and they face competition from AC Milan and Tottenham.
He said: “It is thought that Crysencio Summerville will also depart the club.
"He will also be going to the World Cup with The Netherlands now and this could put him in the shop window.
“Italian giants AC Milan are in the race for his signature and Spurs and Aston Villa are also monitoring the situation."
How do Summerville and Bailey compare?
In the Premier League, the Dutchman notched five goals and two assists in 31 matches, per Sofascore.
Bailey managed no goals and one assist in 13 games, and the underlying numbers are not impressive either for the 41-cap star
He racked up just 0.49 expected goals and 1.46 expected assists, which suggests that he was not getting in the right positions when he was on the pitch.
In comparison, Summerville managed 5.17 expected goals and 3.42 expected assists, meaning that he could have had even more contributions.
The Hammers man is extremely dangerous on the ball, having success with 49 per cent of his dribbles, while the Villa man completes just 19 per cent.
It has been suggested that he would be available if an offer was made this summer, and that would not be a surprise at all, given his terrible record.
He clearly does not feature in Emery's plans, and that is why they are looking at new options in the position, like Summerville.
The former Leeds man would likely go up another level in the Villans team, as his teammates let him down in East London this season, so that is even more ominous for Bailey.
