Legal expert reveals when Aston Villa can expect Brian Madjo appeal result

Villa News has reached out to a legal expert to learn when Aston Villa could hear the result of the Brian Madjo appeal.

The striker has been central to plenty of controversy since sealing an £11million move from Metz in January.

Intrigue has surrounded him in B6 as FIFA blocked his registration due to Article 19.

That means that the 17-year-old would be unable to feature in claret and blue competitively until he turns 18 in January.

The Villans appealed the decision with CAS with the hope of being able to register him early.

Madjo has become the talking point of the summer at Villa Park as a result remains up in the air.

As it stands, the Midlands outfit will be waiting another six months before the striker can feature in a competitive fixture.

That would mark nearly a full year where the teenager has been unable to play a league or cup fixture.

His development will take an obvious hit as a result, so Villa are keen to overturn FIFA's verdict.

They have submitted an appeal to CAS and although it is unclear when the paperwork was submitted, legal expert Daniel Baker has said that he expects the Swiss panel to delay their final verdict.

Baker is a Senior Associate at Knights with years of experience representing elite-level coaches, athletes, clubs and organisations within football, including cases within the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

He believes that a verdict of Madjo's appeal could actually come later than the expected three months.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Baker said: "The only real rule in terms of when a decision can be expected, under their rules, the CAS have three months from when the file, so all the documents relating to the case, is delivered to the panel.

"They have three months from that point, ordinarily, to make a decision on the appeal. The massive caveat is that they often extend that, so aren't bound to that three month period.

"I suspect, that it's likely that they will look to extend that. It's unlikely that the file would have been delivered on the day of the hearing, they would have given that many weeks before."

The teenager has seriously caught the eye having scored four in four games wearing claret and blue.

He started pre-season with two against Walsall, before following that up with strikes against Real Sociedad and the Indonesia XI.

That only added to the clamour that is unsurprising with a six-foot-four, 17-year-old striker who cost over £10m.

The Villa Park faithful just want to see him in action competitively and want to learn the outcome of the CAS appeal.

It now seems as if Villa and Madjo could be kept waiting for even longer than first expected.
