Emi Martinez now appears on the verge of completing his move from Aston Villa to Juventus.

The 33-year-old has been consistently linked with the Italian giants throughout the summer so far, with talk of a potential Villa Park exit dating back into last season.

Fresh off the back of another excellent campaign, Unai Emery will surely be loathed to lose the Argentine international.

Indeed, Martinez kept seven clean sheets and conceded just 39 goals in 32 Premier League games in 2025-26, playing an integral role in Villa's Europa League win and Champions League qualification.

He will currently be solely focused on his World Cup campaign with Argentina, after the defending champions completed a remarkable comeback to squeeze past Egypt and into the quarter-finals on Tuesday evening.

But, as he tries to win another World Cup with Argentina, all the while his Aston Villa exit seems to be bubbling away.

Juventus' mission goals for Emi Martinez meeting revealed

Amid suggestions and reports that Martinez was looking to return to his native Argentina for the 2026-27 season, Juventus have also been firmly in the picture throughout this summer.

Now it would appear they're ready to waste no further time in their pursuit of the experienced goalkeeper, as they look to accelerate his transfer to Turin.

As per a report from Sky Sport Italy, Juventus CEO Giovanni Carnevali and their chief football officer Frederic Massara will meet with Martinez's agent on Wednesday to try and map out the terms of a deal.

It's claimed that Juve want to come away from the meeting knowing how much it will cost to sign the Villa star, before coming to an agreement with the Villains over a deal.

Given that Martinez is contracted at Villa Park until the summer of 2029, and that he's still performing at an elite level at both club and international level, Villa should be able to command a premium price for him.

What has Giovanni Carnevali said about Martinez interest?

Most of the time, transfer chiefs can be rather coy when asked about their club's reported interest in a certain player.

That's not been the case with Juventus and Martinez though, as proven by the aforementioned Carnevali's recent response to being asked about the Aston Villa keeper.

As quoted in the same report from Sky Sport Italy, the Juventus CEO was quizzed on whether or not Martinez was a player they liked and wanted to sign this summer, and he made no secret of the fact he is.

"He's playing in the World Cup, we have to wait and understand why we're interested, but we're not the only ones," Carnevali said.

"There are players whose valuations are too high, and these are things we need to monitor carefully."

Clearly then, Juve won't be willing to pay any old price that Villa quote them if they deem it excessive.

So, whilst this meeting is a big step forward in the progress of the deal, it's not a guarantee that the two sides walk out of it with an agreement in place.
