Emi Martinez could be set to leave Aston Villa to join Juventus in what may be an error of judgement.

The Argentina international was heavily linked with a B6 exit last summer, but he ultimately stuck around.

A potential move to Manchester United never materialised as the keeper was left with egg on his face at Bodymoor Heath.

He has since been forgiven by the Villa Park faithful after playing a key role in the iconic Europa League victory.

That has prompted many to believe he would be sticking around the Midlands for the foreseeable after yet another season to remember in between the sticks.

But Martinez could actually be on his way out this summer as a move to Juventus edges closer.

It appears that the 33-year-old could be edging closer to the exit door in B6 when no one quite expected it.

After his passionate cries of "they're wrong" at the Europa League trophy parade, it felt as if he was going to be at Villa Park for the long haul.

That no longer appears to be the case as a Serie A switch now looks to be on the cards moving into the summer window.

Matteo Moretto reported on Wednesday that Juventus are "very close" to a total agreement with Martinez over his contract.

A deal is said to just "one step away" as personal terms are agreed between the Old Lady and the keeper.

Negotiations with the Villans will heat up next as a details of the deal are defined away from the Midlands.

A move to the Italian giants may feel like a positive step for the Argentine, but it may not turn out that way.

There is no guarantees of success at Juventus considering they finished sixth in Serie A last season.

That will be echoed by Douglas Luiz who swapped Villa Park for Juve two years ago.

The Brazil international was coming off the back of a superb season in the Premier League, but things just never worked out at the Allianz Stadium.

Martinez needs to look at that and understand the risks that could be involved in leaving B6 right now.

It appears that he is all in on a move to the Old Lady anyway and it feels unlikely at this stage that Villa will stand in his way.
