Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet is set to fly into Birmingham to complete his move to Aston Villa, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist tweeted on 30 August that Villa have reached an agreement with the La Liga giants to take the French international on loan.

He said the 28-year-old centre-back will travel later on Wednesday (30 August) to sign a deal with the Villans after already agreeing to join the club.

All but done

It appears as though a deal to take Lenglet to Aston Villa is all but done with the player set to travel to Birmingham after already agreeing on terms.

Unai Emery has been keen to add another central defender to his squad after Tyrone Mings suffered a nasty injury in the opening-day defeat to Newcastle United that is likely to keep him out for a significant period of time.

After already bringing a number of big-name signings through the door this summer, the biggest challenge for the club has been managing their financial fair play situation.

That is why a loan deal for the Frenchman is the perfect scenario for the Villans as there won't be a large amount of cash being handed over to Barcelona, just the agreed loan fee.

The defender will bring a wealth of experience with him, having made more than 350 career appearances, including 160 games for the Spanish side as well as playing 35 times for Tottenham on loan last season.
