Aston Villa surely not serious as Morgan Rogers in Arsenal's reach - View
It will surprise absolutely no one, least of all Aston Villa supporters, that Morgan Rogers is a man in demand.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder has become a key performer for club and country since moving to Villa Park in February 2024.
While he started on the bench for England's opener against Croatia, Rogers will hope to contribute to the Three Lions' World Cup campaign.
He certainly travelled there in confident mood, having scored 10 goals and provided six assts in the Premier League last season.
His fantastic performances for Unai Emery's men, which helped Villa return to the Champions League, have caught the eye of Premier League champions Arsenal.
But the latest news surrounding the Gunners' reported pursuit is a little bit of a chin scratcher for Villa supporters.
Arsenal receive Morgan Rogers transfer boost from Aston Villa
With Rogers away at the World Cup, there is not expected to be much movement in the next month or so regarding his future.
There is unfortunately, though, a growing sense that Rogers will be sold during the transfer window.
With Villa still needing to tread carefully to stay within the financial rules parameters, the reality is that a key sale will probably take place.
But according to Sky Sports, via the Evening Standard, Villa are lowering their asking price for the attacking midfielder.
Villa were, apparently, hopeful of raking in more than the £100million they received for Jack Grealish back in August 2021.
But the report states that Villa will now look for closer to the £80 mark to sanction the exit of the former Middlesbrough man.
Aston Villa should stand their ground over Morgan Rogers
But really, the question for Villa's hierarchy should be...are you serious?
Rogers is already a player in extremely high demand, and at 23 his best years are still ahead of him.
He has the chance to increase his stock even higher playing for England at the World Cup, especially if they can go deep in the tournament.
So, what reasoning could there be to lower the demands now when, if anything, there is still the chance for his price to increase in the coming weeks.
There might be a reality that Rogers will have to be sold, but there should certainly not be a reality that his asking price should be lowered to accomodate that.
Villa need to stand their ground if they are to sell, and make sure they can get the best deal possible for an outstanding player.
