Aston Villa ready to replace Tyrone Mings with £40m Champions League star
Tyrone Mings looks increasingly likely to leave Aston Villa at the end of the season.
Unai Emery's side are on course to miss out on a second successive berth in the Champions League unless they can defy the odds and win it amid a dismal Premier League run.
However, that will not stop them from upgrading their squad in the summer transfer window with former England star Mings a potential casualty.
The 31-year-old has started just seven league matches this season due to injury and the fact that Ezri Konsa and Pau Torres are ahead of him in the pecking order.
Aston Villa set for Joel Ordonez swoop
The Villans are readying a £40 million move to replace Mings with Club Brugge star Joel Ordonez, according to a report from the Sun on Sunday.
The report from the newspaper's print edition (page 55, 2 March) claims that Villa have been interested in the 20-year-old, who can play right-back and centre-back since the group stage clash between the sides.
It states that the Ecuadorian international "looks ideal for the Premier League with his ability and strength" and that Everton are also interested in him.
Mings exit on the cards at Aston Villa
The veteran has consistently suffered with injuries during his time at Villa Park and his stint at the B6 club could be set to end if the Ecuador star is brought into the fold.
If a move for Ordonez is sanctioned in the summer, the former Bournemouth man would be even further down the pecking order for Emery's side and would surely want to start somewhere else instead of warming the bench.

The Villans' interest in the Brugge star does not bode well for Mings but it would be a sensational capture for the club with league rivals, such as the Blues also monitoring him.
The lofty fee suggests that he would be an immediate starter if he were to move to the Midlands dislodging one of Konsa and Torres or potentially featuring at right-back in place of the ever-reliable Matty Cash.
Regardless, it is a statement of intent from Villa, showing that they are not content with just one season of Champions League football and want to play in the competition regularly.
