Donyell Malen has reached a personal agreement to sign for Aston Villa as they pursue a deal with Borussia Dortmund, according to Voetbal International.

The Dutch outlet reported on 6 January that a multi-year contract is ready for the 25-year-old at Villa Park as they look to secure Malen's signature before the transfer window closes on 3 February.

Villa are yet to agree on a fee with Dortmund having seen a £14.9million offer rejected by the Bundesliga side [David Ornstein, 2 January], where Malen is out of favour having started just six times this season.

Malen, however, is keen to make the switch and has already agreed personal terms with the Lions, with an agreement between Villa and Dortmund seemingly only a matter of time.

Donyell Malen transfer to give Aston Villa star-studded frontline

Unai Emery already has a hard enough time deciding whether to play Ollie Watkins or the currently suspended Jhon Duran up front, let alone adding another first-class attacking player to the mix.

If Malen were to join the likes of Duran, Watkins, Jaden Philogene, Morgan Rogers, Leon Bailey and Jacob Ramsey as Villa's frontline options, Emery will have an embarrassment of riches at his disposal.

With Ramsey and Rogers – alongside one of Watkins or Duran of course – two of the first names on the team sheet when everyone is fully fit, Bailey would likely be the player to drop out if Malen signs.

Having grown frustrated with a lack of regular minutes in Dortmund, Malen will arrive at Villa Park with his eyes on a starting berth, and that's something Emery will relish should the transfer come to pass.

Emery could have a selection headache of the highest order and the envy of almost every other Premier League manager, and with Malen in tow, Villa will have the Champions League firmly in their sights.
