Mario Hermoso is set to say goodbye to Atletico Madrid this summer, with a contract offer until 2028 from Aston Villa already on the table, according to Sport Mediaset.

The Italian news outlet reported on 24 March that both Inter Milan and Juventus are ready to make a move for the defender, but have become aware of Villa's offer.

Hermoso will leave Madrid in the summer, with any talks over renewing his current contract now cast aside amid plenty of interest in Europe.

Given the injury issues suffered by Villa's defenders this season, with Tyrone Mings, Diego Carlos, Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa all picking up knocks at some point this season with plenty of time spent without the first-choice options.

Questions have also been asked about the form and longevity of the likes of Carlos and Clement Lenglet, with neither of them able to put together an impressive run of form that would make them a nailed-on starter at Villa Park.

Both Unai Emery and Monchi will likely have plenty of knowledge of Hermoso's talents from their time facing him in La Liga and will be aware of the benefits and drawbacks of bringing the Spanish defender to the Premier League.

At 28 years old, there will be an element of risk involved in the deal, but bringing a defender with experience both on the international stage with Spain and in the Champions League with Atletico Madrid, where he has also won a league title, brings plenty of positives.
