Aston Villa make approach to sign Javi Guerra as £21.2m transfer development emerges

Aston Villa are one of several sides chasing a move for Javi Guerra this summer.

Villa have already lost out in their pursuit of Sverre Nypan, but have recently turned their attention to Valencia's Guerra as they bid to strengthen in the middle of the park.

Villa's interest in the 22-year-old was matched by both AC Milan and Atletico Madrid, meaning Monchi and Co. must act decisively and efficiently if they can have genuine hope of landing the Spanish youngster ahead of next season.

As can be expected with bright promising young talents, a deal for Guerra does not look like it will come cheaply for the B6 outfit.

Valencia have set a price tag of £21.2million on the Villa target, and evidently want to do everything they can to avoid losing their academy graduate on the cheap.

However, it now seems as though the midfielder is nearing an exit from the Mestalla, with Unai Emery's side among multiple teams closing in on Guerra.

Villa are understood to have made an approach for the Valencia star, with Atletico and Milan following suit, according to Calciomercato (16 June).

With all three interested parties now having tabled an offer for Guerra, Villa must decide whether they are willing to become involved in a potential bidding war or whether they are better served turning their attention elsewhere.

Villa face a key decision on Guerra

The Villa Park side perhaps would have had designs on swooping in and jumping the gun on their competitors, helping them to secure Guerra's signature quickly and easily.

However, now that all three teams have materialised their interest in the midfielder, it looks extremely unlikely that this transfer race will play out like that.

The Villans must now assess how badly they want the Valencia man, who is currently away on international duty with Spain's U21 side.

Given Villa's current PSR constraints, the last thing they will want is to become embroiled back and forth bidding, especially when they are up against two of Europe's biggest clubs.

They will know their transfer business must be conducted sensibly and meticulously. As a result, they need to ensure they thoroughly assess Guerra and any of their potential alternative options, and work out which would be the most cost-effective option.
