Aston Villa are looking to bolster their squad following the excellent 2025-26 campaign.

After 30 years, the Villans finally ended their trophy drought, as Unai Emery's side lifted the Europa League.

At the same time, the B6 outfit secured their Champions League return after missing out so cruelly the year before.

Now, attentions turn to the transfer window, with Emery's side in need of further refreshing.

Fiorentina forward Albert Gudmundsson is someone of interest to the Villans, as per local Florence outlet Fiorentina Uno.

With Bournemouth also mentioned as a side submitting an enquiry, he has a family history that will baffle fans across the Premier League.

Who is Albert Gudmundsson?

Joining Fiorentina from Genoa in 2024, the Icelandic atttacker has scored 18 goals and laid on nine assists in 79 appearances for La Viola.

This comes after a record of 31 and 10 in 87 appearances in Genoa.

At 29, he is an experienced attacker, capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or as a lone striker - the sort of versatility Unai Emery loves.

But it is his family history that Villa fans will find marvellous.

Gudmundsson is actually part of four straight generations of Iceland internationals, who have also scored for the national team.

His great grandfather - also named Albert Gudmundsson - was the first ever professional footballer from the Nordic island, spending time with the likes of Rangers, Arsenal and AC Milan before retiring in 1958.

He would then become Iceland's Minister of Finance, starting a political career.

Back to the Gudmundsson of the present day, his grandfather and both parents were also footballers, with his mother being the daughter of Ingi Bjorn Albertsson - holder of the record for most goals in the Icelandic top flight from 1987 to 2012.

Essentially, the 29-year-old comes from Icelandic football royalty.

Where would Gudmundsson fit in at Aston Villa?

If there is one thing Emery loves, it is versatility - Gudmundsson would provide exactly that.

Of course, he is not someone to come in and take the starting XI to a whole new level.

But, his record across the continent is more than respectable, while he has racked up 40 appearances across various European competitions.

Having joined Fiorentina for around £13million last summer, the Villans could get a bargain deal done for someone who would add depth to the squad, while his story would be a fascinating one to discuss at Villa Park.
