Lewis Dobbin could return to Aston Villa in the January transfer window as West Brom are working on terminating his loan deal, according to Baggies insider DOOD.

The 21-year-old joined the fellow West Midlands side on a temporary deal in the summer but since his arrival, he has struggled to nail down his place in Carlos Corberan's starting line-up.

The winger has made 15 appearances so far this term but has only been in the starting XI once.

Furthermore, the loanee is yet to register a goal or assist in this campaign, showing the struggles he's had settling in.

As a result, DOOD has claimed that the Baggies are looking to return him to his parent club as they posted on X: "West Brom [are] looking at options to send Dobbin and Račić back in January if possible."

Lewis Dobbin set to return to Aston Villa

After acquiring the youngster's services in the summer, a loan move away from Villa Park was a sensible decision to allow the winger to develop his game.

However, the move has not gone to plan so far and seemingly the 21-year-old has struggled to find his place in Corberan's West Brom side which has left him with minimal game time which in turn has given him less opportunity to get his first goal contribution on the board.

It's not a surprise to see the Baggies are keen to offload him in January as they hope to bring in reinforcements that will support their aim of promotion to the Premier League at the end of the campaign rather than developing players.

This will also be the right move for both the player and his parent club though as they are able to look at new options for the remainder of the season in the hope of giving the young player an opportunity for minutes and to build confidence by contributing for another side.

There is clearly a player in there but perhaps a new environment will allow Dobbin to show what he can do.
