Aston Villa are in talks with Bayer Leverkusen over a loan with an obligation to buy deal for Emi Buendia, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The newspaper reported on 26 January (page 64) that the 28-year-old is seen as the ideal replacement for Martin Terrier for Xabi Alonso's side.

The Frenchman is out injured for the rest of the season and so the Bundesliga outfit wants the diminutive Argentine on a temporary deal with a purchase option.

This is in contrast to the Villans who want any January loan deal for the attacking midfielder to include an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

Bayer Leverkusen want Emi Buendia from Aston Villa

The former Norwich City man just hasn't been given a proper chance to impress by Unai Emery since returning from his long-term injury.

Buendia started against Monaco but before that had featured across just 93 minutes out of a possible 1620 since November, summing up his season.

His performance against the Ligue 1 side was positive and appears to have caught the eye of Leverkusen who have been one of the best sides in Europe in recent years.

This just shows how useful the Argentine can be to the Villans this season but he may want to leave on a personal note to secure regular first-team football.

A loan could make sense but it will be interesting to see if an option or obligation to buy is included in any potential deal.
