Aston Villa get signal to pursue Matias Soule as Morgan Rogers uncertainty lingers
Aston Villa should be readying themselves for a transfer chase involving Roma's Matias Soule.
The Villans have been linked with a move for the Argentine across recent months, with his future in the Italian capital in doubt.
Graduating from the Juventus academy, Soule would join the Giallorossi in 2024, after an impressive spell out on loan at Frosinone.
It has not been plain sailing for the 23-year-old since, with a spot in the lineup far from guaranteed across his stint, while he has missed out on a spot in Argentina's World Cup squad.
But the talent is undoubtedly there, with Villa among a handful of clubs tracking the attacking midfielder.
And looking ahead to the summer months, Unai Emery's side may have just been given the green light to go and pursue Soule.
Fresh reports indicate clear Matias Soule preference amid transfer talk
With a wand of a left foot and superb creative instincts, Soule has remained a huge threat at Roma, despite his numbers not exactly shining.
Across two seasons at the Olimpico, the Argentine has scored 12 times and registered 13 assists.
For important context, though, his 5,002 minutes across all competitions in two years only narrowly beat the 4,564 of Morgan Rogers this term - with the pair putting up a similar contribution record in a similar amount of minutes.
According to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Soule is of interest to German giants Borussia Dortmund, with a Roma exit likely this summer.
Crucially, however, it is said that the player himself would prefer a move to the Premier League, with Aston Villa and Bournemouth testing the waters.
Valued between £30 to £35million, the B6 outfit could be looking to strengthen their attacking ranks this summer - potentially pointing in the direction of a fresh start for Emery at Villa Park.
Where does Matias Soule fit at Aston Villa?
With Villa seemingly targeting an attacking midfielder, the elephant in the room that is a posssible Rogers departure cannot be ignored.
But Soule is much more than just a number 10.
Capable of playing out on the flank, the young Argentine is blessed with incredible abilities with the ball at his feet, alongside supreme creative instincts.
The physical side of his game does not come close to Rogers, but he would raise the technical floor in both central and wide roles, with a move also highlighting more of a focus on youth in the coming years.
He is an unknown in the Premier League, meaning that he is not the immediate Rogers replacement Villa fans would have liked, but the long-term value is most certainly there with Soule.
