Aston Villa fans certainly will have enjoyed watching England secure a 2-1 victory over Norway.

The Three Lions faced a World Cup quarter-final in a trip to Miami on Saturday.

Despite things not getting off to the best start when Andreas Schjelderup scored from a cross-come-shot, Thomas Tuchel's men turned it around.

Jude Bellingham scored a first half equaliser before going on to grab the winner in extra time.

England now have a semi-final against Argentina to look forward to on Wednesday.

The win will mean slightly more to Villa knowing that one of Norway's stars was previously unsavoury about them.

What did Fredrik Aursnes say about Aston Villa?

There was a familiar face in goal for the Norwegians as Orjan Nyland started in between the sticks.

He didn't have his greatest day as he spilled a Morgan Rogers strike before Bellingham netted the winner.

As interesting it was to see the ex-Villa man, it was Fredrik Aursnes who some supporters may remember for the wrong reasons.

The 30-year-old was linked with a B6 move in 2023 after coming onto Unai Emery's radar.

A report from Record suggested that the Villans had activated his £42million release clause and were willing to double his salary.

In an interview after that offer, Aursnes essentially told TV2 that he didn't want to join Villa and seemed to suggest that money was all they had to offer.

He said: "No (I would not have joined Aston Villa). I don’t think it would have been tempting. Money means little. I am happy in Benfica. (Leaving) is not something I’m thinking about right now."

It was a strange comment to make about a side that had just qualified for Europe under Emery, so seeing him lose will go down well in B6.

How did Aursnes perform for Norway vs England?

The versatile midfielder wasn't even afforded the chance from the start, but came on after 60 minutes.

He wasn't truly able to impact the game and help turn the tide in his side's favour in Florida.

His zero per cent cross accuracy wasn't helped by his only shot flying well wide of Jordan Pickford's goal.

There were some upsides with his one chance created and six defensive actions, but that is as good as it got.

Villa are now looking ahead to Champions League football, meanwhile Aursnes is packing his bags for home with his Norway teammate.
