Aston Villa attacker Lewis Dobbin is closing in on an exit from Villa Park.

After an impressive loan spell with Preston North End, the 23-year-old has attracted attention from across the Championship.

Now, after interest from the likes of West Brom and Middlesbrough, Dobbin is set to sign for Southampton.

The Saints reached the Championship play-off final last term, before the spygate saga saw them kicked out days before the clash against Hull.

Now, they are adding the 10 goals and eight assists of Dobbin as they strive to climb back to the Premier League.

With the move working for all parties involved, Villa fans are ecstatic about the fee, as they prepare for a huge summer.

Southampton have agreed a deal to sign Dobbin for £9m, plus add-ons, according to Jacob Tanswell.

Undergoing a medical on Monday, the South Coast club have beaten several second tier sides to the signing.

Reacting to the news, the Villa fanbase celebrated the fact that they are actually breaking even on the deal, after signing him from Everton in 2024.

"£9m for Dobbin is unbelievable business," said one supporter on X.

On Sunday, Villa's interest in Freiburg talisman Johan Manzambi was revealed, and one supporter even compared the two scenarios.

It has been a slow burner of a transfer window so far, but two major pieces of news have emerged in recent days, with Manzambi coming in and Dobbin heading out.

For the fanbase, this is a welcome relief.

While he was never able to make a name for himself at Villa Park, he does remain respected by the fans.

Ahead of his departure, many on X were keen to wish him well as he moves on.

For Villa now, they will hope to finally begin their transfer window, as they prepare for the start to the 2026-27 season.

Why a deal for Dobbin is bigger than initially thought

While the Villans have peformed admirably on the pitch in recent years, they have hardly been aided in the transfer market.

Last year's summer in fact, ended up being a complete shocker, and this directly influenced the start to the season for Unai Emery's side, as they embarked on the winless run

Now, it is pivotal that business is done before the season, in terms of both ins and outs.

Manzambi is on his way, and Dobbin looks to be out for a great fee.

If Aston Villa are to start well this season, the squad must be largely finalised for the opening weeks.

And after returning to the Champions League despite the poor start last term, who knows what can happen if Villa are firing on all cylinders from the off.
